Activities
Grades K-12
- Discussion: Talk about difference. Ask about students'
experiences being in a new school, etc. Everyone has something that sets
him apart from everyone else, like being the new kid in school, being from
a different country, or looking different. These differences should be
celebrated instead of being used to set us apart from each other. This
will help students
relate to Latino students who have to deal with being different from everyone
else and speaking a different language.
- Ask about which photographs from "La Cara Latina" the
students like and why.
- Get students to take pictures that express their
culture. This could be photos of their families and whatever they think
makes them who they are.
Grades 8-12
Discussion: Talk about art. What effect did the subjects being
Latino have on the photographs in the exhibit? What effect does culture have
on the way someone expresses him- or herself? This will help students to
talk about the way a person's culture has a huge effect on her identity and
self-expression.
